I did a sectioned bun with one of my XL flexi-8s today, and.. it's almost too small. Granted, the sections I took out weren't that big, but this flexi could hold all of my hair a few months ago. ALL OF IT. And now it's drowning in a sectioned bun. When did this happen? I didn't think I'd "outgrow" the XL so soon. I'm not sure how I feel about this. Does this mean that I'll have to use the XXL if I want to make a regular nautilus bun? Will that be neck-breakingly heavy? Do I really want to find out? How come I have 3 tangle teezers and none of them are clean? Do I need another one? (yeeeeees!) So many questions!
My last posts have been very short and fairly pointless, but don't worry, something more interesting is coming soon.. A new First Impression post! I tried a new product today and I'm very excited about it.
Oh sweet Flexi-8, how comfortable and gloriously beautiful you are! I feel like I may be going on a flexi-8 binge again soon..

Ficcare, flexi-8 and spin pins
Sectioned buns work with L Ficcares too! I was worried size L would be too big, but it fits perfectly. I do need to make the bunning section slightly bigger though, but not much. There's still plenty of hair left to twist around afterwards. This may even be more comfortable than with flexi-8s, simply because the Ficcare holds my bun in a death grip. It does. not. move. at. all! I tried shaking my head and jumping up and down, and the bun remained glued to the back of my head. I'm amazed. In fact, so amazed that I kept my hair bunned the entire day, even though I only stayed inside after work and could easily have gotten away with just a loose braid.
Speaking of flexi-8s, I purchased a new one. A custom, of course. The new FOTM was very pretty, but I would have preferred it in gold. I almost always prefer gold, which makes it pretty ironic that my new custom is in silver. I'm getting the Roman Stone Lite Sapphire in large, with both lite sapphire and clear Aurora Borealis beads. Steve at flexi8.com sent me a picture to make sure they got my instructions right, and it looks gorgeous. I can hardly wait!
I've also decided to part with one of my XL flexis, simply because it doesn't look that good in my hair and I almost never wear it. A fellow LHCer mentioned that she was interested in it, and I think it's better to pass it on to someone who will appreciate it. I have looked through my collection, and there are a few other pieces I'm not loving anymore either. Not sure if I'll be putting those up for sale too, at least not yet.
I purchased a super cheap 12-pack of spin pins on ebay, and I was a bit disappointed, but not surprised when they arrived. They didn't have the little bump on the tips that my Hair Scroos have, so the tips were quite sharp and not very hair and scalp friendly. Otherwise the pins seemed fine, but obviously I couldn't put something like that in my hair without fixing it first. I experimented a bit with one if the pins today, and tried to make ' end bumps' by adding several layers of clear nailpolish. It appears to be working, because the ends aren't sharp anymore, they seem more like the Hair Scroos. A bit time consuming to do this to 11 more pins, since the polish has to dry between each layer, but I've got next Tuesday off and don't have anything better to do. I'm happy that I will be able to use my pins after all. The seller also included a few telephone cord elastics, and I'm very skeptical. I know of other LHC members who use them without any problems, but they look hazardous to my hair.

I've lost..
.. 1" from my ponytail circumference. I measured it out of curiosity on Wednesday, and it was 5" at my nape. It might have been slightly thicker if I had measured on the top of my head, but I didn't feel like doing that. My pony was 6" when I joined LHC two years ago. Last winter/spring I noticed that I seemed to be losing more hair, but I didn't think much about it. I attributed most of it to length, because long shed hairs naturally make the pile look bigger. I measured my pony sometime in the summer and by then it was down to 5,6".
I guess you know you're a thick haired gal when you lose 1" of thickness, and barely even notice it. My buns were still big and the braids were still fairly plump and bulky. I could feel that my hair was slightly thinner when I sectioned it before braiding, but I didn't think much about it. The shedding appears to be back to normal now. I don't usually count my sheds, but I did one night after combing with my TT. I got 20. I had also combed my hair that morning, and that pile was smaller. I guess the total was 30-40 strands? Perfectly normal, and not something to worry about.
I do wonder if the shedding may have been because of my iron deficiency. I got my blood work done right before Christmas, and the doctor said that I had a small deficiency and that I needed to take supplements. I don't know if that would make my hair fall out, but I think it's a possibility.
Losing that much thickness is much less devastating for a person with very thick hair. I still feel sad that I'm no longer the girl with crazy, insanely, impossibly thick hair. Now I just the one with thick hair. =/

Kitty-flexi and more rubies
Two little flexis arrived a while ago, but due to lots of work and quite a bit of laziness, I haven't gotten around to taking any pictures until now. Here are the second and third members of the Itty Bitty Flexi-8 Committee. I already have both of these in size Mega. I have only taken an action picture of the Kitty-flexi, because I couldn't be bothered to take the bun down and do it again (it would take about 30 seconds, but there's no way I'm doing it!!). The bus is a pinless bun with two rope braids.

Black Nickel and Sapphire
Please welcome the first member of the "Itty Bitty Flexi-8 Committee". This is a size Large flexi-8. It's tiny! So impossibly small compared to size Mega and XL. It's perfect for a pinless braided bun though, which is great, because I ordered 3 other L flexis before this one even had arrived. Now, picture time!

Autumn's Ruby Bouquet
My flexi-8 of the month! It's here!! Sooner than I had expected (I thought it would be here tomorrow)! I wont bore you with lots of writing, I just want to say that it's gorgeous!! And I apologize for the slightly out of focus action picture. I took several, but none looked good. This is the best. I think my camera can't handle the beauty of this flexi-8.
As always, clicky for bigger, better pictures!

Brilliant Bloom
Fun story behind this flexi-8. I originally ordered a custom flexi, the Open Flower in Antique Gold with Sapphire AB beads instead of regular AB beads.
^This one, but with blue beads. The size is XL.
After a while I got an email from Steve at flexi8.com, who thought my custom request sounded very similar to a brand new LillaRose design that hadn't been released in the shop yet. He sent me a few pictures of it and offered to let me change my order to the other design, which I of course did. Currently I'm the only one who has this piece, but once it's available in the shop, I suggest you get one because it's gorgeous! The flower has three tiny AB beads in the middle.
Update! It's available on LillaRose!

Welcome
Ah, the usual "Hi, this is me, welcome to my blog"-post. Not that there are anyone to welcome, as I find it highly unlikely that anyone will read this. Ah well, let's get this over with.
I'm KittyBird, a 23 year old woman who loves long hair. My hair is currently at the elegantly named BCL/Butt-crack length, and my goal is to grow to terminal length. In other words, as long as it can get. My hair is iii, 2a/2b, medium strand thickness. Currently sporting a fancy, unintentional reverse ombre, because I'm growing out black chemical dye and dyeing the new growth red with henna. I'm addicted to hair toys, with my current obsession being Flexi-8s. My hair is mostly bunned, but I try to keep it down when I'm at home, so that my scalp gets to rest.
This blog will contain mostly stuff about my hair, but also a lot of other random stuff. Enjoy!
