Ok, I'll stop now.

I've read about this product on LHC many times, and I've seen it on various blogs and vlogs, but I've always put it off as something that would never work for me. Then I saw a video of CinnamonHair using it on her superlong hair, and I decided that if she could use it, I definitely could. And so I bought a 2 pack, purple of course, and somehow it managed to arrive on the day before wash day. Magical!
Yes, I had to borrow a picture from google this time, because I ripped my box in pieces, one towel is wet, and the other is... hidden somewhere in that black hole I call a closet.

I still had my doubts about it, especially after opening the packet and seeing how small-ish it was. Not exactly small, but it didn't seem big enough to hold all my hair. Turns out I was very, very wrong. I actually have lots of room to grow in, and I think the main reason for that is that my hair is so thick. Twisting my hair up and putting it over my head really eats up a lot of length, and I didn't have much hair to put in the twisty loopy thing (I know that doesn't make much sense, but I had a hard day at work and my brain isn't working properly).

As for drying capacities, I'm very impressed. Actually, make that incredibly, extremely, super-impressed. I  left my hair in the Turbie Twist for about 15-20 minutes, and it had dried up a lot during that short amount of time. It wasn't wet or drippy when I took it down, it really didn't drip at all while I put on my leave-ins and serum. Some parts, like the very ends, had almost dried completely! During regular air-drying draped over a towel, my hair remains drippy for a very long time, and it takes ages for it to dry.

After I had applied products to my hair, I draped it over a towel, as I usually do, and then waited for it to dry. It didn't take long. I think my hair was almost completely dry after some 3-4 hours, which is pretty amazing for me, as my usual drying time is 8-12 hours.

My first impression of the Turbie Twist is very positive, and I'll continue to use it. It's so easy to use, and it really speeds up the drying. I'll report back in a few months and let you guys know if I still love it.

Opal

Finally! A comfortable Ficcare bun! Haven't been able to use them for months now, so I'm pretty thrilled that I made it work today. Please ignore the visible pins and scrunchie. ^-^

Mint and Purple

Today's updo: Folded braid. I thought these were impossible until I saw JJJ Longhair's tutorial. Then I realized that I had just been doing it wrong - at least wrong for my hair. I'm extremely pleased with this method, and I may try it with a Ficcare tomorrow. I tried with a Flexi-8 today, and that didn't work at all. I had to re-do it with these clippies.

I really like how my hair colour looks in the sun. I just ordered a new batch of henna, and it should be here in two weeks time. I haven't hennaed for months now, and my roots are getting crazy. ^-^

Clip bun

Today I tried a sectioned variation of JJJ Longhair's Clip Bun. I've tried to do it without sectioning, but my hair is still too thick to do the first step. Not even my biggest claw clips manage to fit over the twisted hair. So I divided my hair in two and put each section over my shoulders. Then I divided those sections in half, ca. right behind my ears. I made a low ponytail with the back sections, secured with a folded elastic, twisted up and clipped. Then I continued twisting around and pinned the hair with long bobbypins. Then I twisted one of the front sections around and pinned, and added a few medium claw clips to make it extra secure. This would definitely have looked better if I had used clips in other colours, but oh well. The leopard ones were closest to me. :)

The clip in the center is one of my Korean chiffon bow clips, which I love. They're not the strongest clips, but they make up for it by being super pretty. I think this colour is rice white? I certainly don't think it could be camo brown (I have both). I think it's a bit weird to call it rice white, when it's actually more of a dusty pink though. I'm a complete moron, because that is in fact camo brown. Doh! But it's still weird to call it camo brown, right? Because it's a dusty pink colour

It's not the prettiest bun in the world, but certainly very comfortable.

Drowning in hair

I did a sectioned bun with one of my XL flexi-8s today, and.. it's almost too small. Granted, the sections I took out weren't that big, but this flexi could hold all of my hair a few months ago. ALL OF IT. And now it's drowning in a sectioned bun. When did this happen? I didn't think I'd "outgrow" the XL so soon. I'm not sure how I feel about this. Does this mean that I'll have to use the XXL if I want to make a regular nautilus bun? Will that be neck-breakingly heavy? Do I really want to find out? How come I have 3 tangle teezers and none of them are clean? Do I need another one? (yeeeeees!) So many questions!

My last posts have been very short and fairly pointless, but don't worry, something more interesting is coming soon.. A new First Impression post! I tried a new product today and I'm very excited about it.

Oh sweet Flexi-8, how comfortable and gloriously beautiful you are! I feel like I may be going on a flexi-8 binge again soon..

Logblob

This was supposed to be a logroll bun. I'm not entirely sure why it's such a blobby mess, but I think it's because I was too lazy to twist my hair before bunning. Ah well, at least it's comfortable.

Sunday

Good evening! I honestly couldn't come up with a more imaginative title than 'Sunday', because despite sleeping most of the day, I'm very, very tired. I blame the unusually hot weather we have here now. No real point to this post, I just wanted to say hi and post a picture. I've only been making messy buns with claw clips this weekend, purely because I've been terribly lazy. I washed my hair on Friday, and didn't brush it until this evening. I know I know, shame on me!

I didn't want to leave it down after brushing, so I put it up in an orchid bun. I love these blue clips, they're among my absolute favourites. I got super lucky on ebay before the weekend, and I managed to snap them up in green and violet-red too. All the colours had been listed as out of stock for a while, and then suddenly a pair of green and a pair of violet-red were available again. Can't wait to have them here!

First Impression - Hairwonder Hair Repair Cream

Welcome to the first installment of First Impression! The first leave-in I'm reviewing is the Hairwonder hair repair cream, a leave-in I've had laying around for a while. I'll be honest, I did try a bit of it on dry ends once, and it didn't seem to do much at all. I've never tried it on wet hair as a part of my LOC-routine though, and that's what I've done this time. First, some info about the product.

According to the website, this is a protein-filled leave-in that will instantly make your hair healthy, shiny, silky soft, and easy to comb. It's supposed to strengthen the hair and prevent splits and damage. It'll work for all hair types, and can be used daily.
I'm quite skeptical to using this daily, but that's just me.

Full ingredients list (from beautynaturals.com):
Aqua (Water), Quaternium 87, Ceateryl Alcohol, Glyceryl Caprylate, Propylene Glycol, Polyglyceryl-3 Methylglucose Distearate, PEG-15 Cocopolyamine, Simmondsia Chinensis Seed Oil, Phenoxyethanol, Glycerin, Panthenol, Cetyl Hydroxyethylcellulose, Tocopheryl Acetate, Phytantriol, Hydrolyzed Corn Protein, Hydrolyzed Wheat Protein, Hydrolyzed Soy Protein, Parfum (Fragrance), Aspalathus Linearis Leaf Extract, Camellia Sinensis (Leaf) Extract, Cassia Angustifolia (Leaf) Extract, Chamomilla Recutita (Matricaria Flower) Extract, Humulus Lupulus (Hops) Extract, Melissa Officinalis (Leaf) Extract, Panax Ginseng (Root) Extract, Rosmarinus Officinalis (Rosemary Leaf) Extract, Hexyl Cinnamal, Limonene.

Key ingredients:
Jojoba seed oil
Provitamin B5
Vitamin E
Corn protein
Wheat protein
Soy protein
Rooibos leaf extract
Green Tea leaf extract
Senna leaf extract
Matricaria flower extract
Hops extract
Lemon Balm leaf extract
Ginseng root extract
Rosemary leaf extract

There's a lot of protein in here, which is why I've been wary of this product. I've read a lot of horror stories about protein overload on LHC, and they've scared the crap out of me. I do think that a bit of protein every now and then is beneficial though, and I don't think this leave-in will destroy my hair. I sure hope it wont! =P

My first impression:
I used this leave-in as the C in LOC, meaning I put it on after Nightblooming's Triple Moon oil and Freya salve. I reduced the amount of oil and salve this time, because I didn't want to put too much product on my hair.

Texture: Smooth and creamy, very easy to apply.

Smell: Doesn't really smell like much, but it's not good. However, the scent disappears after it has been applied to the hair.

After drying: My hair dried as normal, though I did have more spirals than I usually do. My hair didn't look shiny, but it never does before it has been brushed.

Detangling: This went surprisingly smooth. Despite detangling my hair before washing, I always end up with tangles after I'm done. I brush these out when my hair is dry/a bit damp, and it can take anything from 10 minutes to half an hour (or more). This time, it only took me 5 minutes to brush all of my hair with the Tangle Teezer.

Overall: I'm quite pleased with the results. It has been a few days since I put the leave-in on, and my hair is still soft and shiny, and very easy to detangle. My hair feels a bit producty, but that's likely because I accidentally put too much leave-in on. I wouldn't use this daily, but I think for occasional use it'll be fine. I'll continue to experiment, and I'll write another review in a few months.

I'm also adding a picture of my hair on day 2 after wash day. It was very smooth and silky, and my waves were almost brushed straight.

Tuesday 8 July 2014

Hello again!

Aaaaaand I'm back! I'm not happy about it, because two weeks of relaxing isn't enough for me. I want at least one more week! I've spent the last two weeks waking barefoot all day long, only wearing shorts and t-shirts (I'm usually a lacy tops and cute skirts-girl), kayaking, swimming (only once), playing Plants vs Zombies, and eating way. too. much. I'm pretty sure I've put on 10 kg, if not more. Sweet baby cheezus, no more cakes and candy for me!

Being without internet for so long gave me some time to think. I know I wrote that my haircare routine was terribly boring, which is why I haven't written much about it. Well, that's about to change. I've decided to be a good blogger, and try out some new leave-in cremes. I bought 3 on ebay last night (StrawberryNet was having a sale), and I'll take a look in the shop today too. If I find something interesting, I'll try it out. Each review will be split in two posts, one about my first impression of the product after trying it one time, and then a second post after using the product for a month or two. The first product on my list is a leave-in I've had for a while (but not used), Hair Wonder hair repair cream. The First Impression post about that product will be up in a few days. I hope this is something that you'll find interesting.

I'm going to share some of my vacation pictures with you too, so expect a few non-hair related posts. My boyfriend and I did a bit of sightseeing, and the area is so beautiful that I just have to show you some pictures. We were staying in his parents' cottage on Sotra, an island just outside of Bergen. Such amazing place, I love it there.
I've also received a lot of large claw clips during my absence, and I can't wait to show you pictures of them. They're all sooo gorgeous! The hold is really good too, and there were no sharp snaggy bits on any of them. I'll try to get proper pictures of them soon.
I'll finish this off with the hideous cinnamon bun I wore to work yesterday. It shows one of my new clips, a large leopard clip. I love it!

And here's a disc bun with my small clippies. It's the only bun picture I took during my vacation.

Greetings!

Good news, everyone! This is a post I wrote two weeks ago. I'm returning soon, and I shall hopefully bring lots of lovely pictures for you. I'm also sure that a ton of claw clips have arrived in my absence, and those shall be tried on too. Have a lovely weekend!

The LOC Method

LOC - Liquid - Oil - Cream. This leave-in method is quite popular amongst curlies and wavies as far as I know, and though it seems like a styling method, it can also be used by those of us who don't wear our hair loose. It makes the hair soft, shiny, and easy to manage. The LOC-thread on LHC has a lot more information, and many success stories too, including mine. I decided to try it out a few weeks or so ago, and I can only say that I'm amazed by the results I've gotten. I have very dry hair, and it has always been difficult to make it soft and properly moisturized. Leave-in conditioners helped a bit, but not enough, Panacea/salve did make it soft and nice, but I had to apply it every day to keep up the effect. The result was that my hair became a lint & dust magnet, which meant more tangles.

I was skeptical to trying LOC and I put it off for a long while, mainly because putting oil on wet hair has always given me stringy, icky hair. I decided to do my own little twist on it, as many in the LOC-thread has done too, and I mixed the oil and cream before applying. I used First Price conditioner as leave-in, Nightblooming's Triple Moon Hair Anointing Oil as oil (duh!) and Nightblooming's Freya Salve as cream. Here's what I did:

-Wash and condition hair as usual, squeeze out excess water, and apply coney leave-in conditioner.

-Gently wrap a towel around the hair and let it towel dry while I get dressed.

- Remove towel and put all hair over either right or left shoulder. Carefully separate the biggest clumps.

- Scrape up a small amount of Freya salve and put it in my hand. Add 3-4 drops of Triple Moon oil, and rub palms together for a bit. Stroke hands all over the hair, even above the ears, but mainly on the length and ends. Then let it airdry.

This method makes my hair incredibly soft and shiny, and so easy brush with my TT. I don't have to put any panacea/salve on it after it has dried, it actually stays soft and wonderful until next wash day. It's pretty amazing. I've only tried it with Freya salve and Triple Moon oil, but I'm interested to try the other salves too, and Khadi Amla Oil.
